Plant sex...

I have been watching a succulent plant outside the kitchen window for the last couple of weeks. It has started to flower (spring must be on its way! Yay) and I finally managed a half decent photo of it. A couple of years ago I watched, entranced as a plant around the corner from home started to flower. The 'tree' was about 3 metres high and then a stalk started to grow from the centre. It grew another 3 metres at least and had the most wonderful spray of white flowers in a similar style to this photo. The really really good bit was that the flower stalk grew from nothing to 3 metres in only a couple of weeks! Amazing...
PS: How much deeper would the oceans be if sponges didn't exist?
